Smoke detector campaign is a winner

A public awareness campaign promoting the proper use of smoke detectors is an award winner, as well as being a potential life saver.

The campaign, sponsored by the United States Fire Administration, received an award of excellence from the National Capitol Chapter of the Public Relations Society of America. Its slogan is “It’s a Real Protector, It’s a Smoke Detector.”

More than 75 million Americans have heard the campaign’s message through public service announcements on radio and television, fact sheets, and press releases. More than 12,000 campaign kits—1,000 of them in Spanish—have been distributed.

That kit, and two other public awareness projects—“Partnerships Against Fires” and “Check Your Hotspots”—are available from the USFA. Write to the Office of Fire Prevention and Arson Control, USFA, 16825 S. Seton Ave., Emmitsburg, Maryland 21727.
