USFA Report: While working at the scene of a high rise apartment building fire, D.C. Fire Lieutenant Kevin McRae, 44, went into cardiac arrest and collapsed. According to media reports, McRae, in charge of the first-due engine and crew, had just exited the structure after fighting the fire in a 9th floor apartment for 50 minutes. Lieutenant McRae was transported to the Washington Hospital Center where he was pronounced dead. Two others, including one firefighter, suffered nonlife-threatening injuries in the incident, which remains under investigation by authorities.
UPDATE, 10:55 a.m. ET: The local NBC affiliate reported (http://bit.ly/1c5CBY5) that Lieutenant Kevin McRae died after collapsing at the fire. His family has reportedly been notified.
ORIGINAL STORY: Reports indicate a firefighter has died after being injured in a two-alarm high-rise apartment fire today in Washington, D.C.
MyFOXDC.com reported (http://bit.ly/1dNl7ks) that a second injured firefighter was hospitalized with nonlife-threatening injuries, and two civilians were also injured and hospitalized.
The fire reportedly occurred around 8:15 a.m. Wednesday at a building in the northwest area of the city.

This would be the sixth firefighter fatality reported just this week for the American fire service.
