>> An E-ONE HP 78 ladder was recently added to the St. Pete Beach (FL) Fire Department (SPBFD) fleet. The department serves 10,000 people on the weekdays and upwards of 30,000 people on the weekends, tending to 62 high-rise buildings on a variety of calls. When configuring its new aerial, the SPBFD needed versatility. The SPBFD originally chose E-ONE because it preferred the design of the ladder, which offered a shorter wheelbase than other bidders. www.EONE.com.

>> HAZMATIQ, a hazardous materials response training company that teaches responders how to think at hazmat emergencies, has joined the Federal Resources Hazmat, EOD, CBRNE centric training team. This acquisition allows Federal Resources to increase its footprint on the hazmat training arena. Federal Resources is recognized for its new equipment and scenario-based training on CBRNE predominant equipment. >> ACTION TRAINING SYSTEMS received an Aurora Award® for its work on the vehicle extrication series, “Hybrid & Electric Vehicles.” The Aurora Awards is an international competition that specifically targets products, programs, and commercials that would not normally have the opportunity to compete on a national level by focusing on nonnational commercials, regional or special interest entertainment, and corporate sponsored film and video. The Vehicle Extrication series includes 10 training programs that teach to the current National Fire Protection Association (NFPA) standards including NFPA 1001. Standard for Fire Fighter Professional Qualifications; NFPA 1006, Standard for Technical Rescuer Professional Qualifications; and NFPA 1670, Standard on Operations and Training for Technical Search and Rescue Incidents. www.action-training.com.

>> RESCUE ONE has secured an order for 75 rescue boats for Thailand. The order will be shipped in phases beginning in February 2013 and set for an in-service date of late 2013. Rescue ONE, in partnership with DLM Solutions, headquartered in Bangkok, has been awarded a project to equip government agencies with Rescue ONE Connector Boats outfitted with outboard engines, command consoles, rescue platforms, and emergency light bar mounting racks. In addition to the boats, DLM will be building Rescue ONE’s specially designed double-stacked trailers to enable 38 rescue stations around the country to be equipped with two boats transported on one trailer. www.rescueone.com. >> COLUMBIA SOUTHERN UNIVERSITY will host Phoenix (AZ) Fire Department Chief (Ret.) Alan Brunacini’s Fire-Rescue Leadership Institute, which invites all first-responders and emergency service personnel to attend a leadership retreat April 12-14 at the Hilton Garden Inn in North Charleston, South Carolina. The three-day leadership event still has seats available. This educational and motivational seminar introduces attendees to an array of case studies and personal experiences by some of the nation’s foremost fire-rescue service leaders. >> TRUE NORTH GEAR has renamed its FDIC Training Scholarship in honor of Lieutenant Richard A. Nappi, a 17-year member of the Fire Department of New York, who died of a heart attack on April 16, 2012-the first day of FDIC 2012-after he led his colleagues from Engine 237 through a burning warehouse in Brooklyn. Nappi was also a volunteer firefighter with Farmingville (NY) Fire Department and a deputy chief instructor with the Suffolk County (NY) Fire Academy. The scholarship includes a flight to Indianapolis, a five-night hotel stay, and attendance to FDIC including up to 16 hours of H.O.T evolutions and/or workshops, classroom training, and general sessions and exhibits. >> ELBECO partnered with the Monmouth County (NJ) Sheriff’s Office (MCSO) to donate more than 2,500 uniforms to first responders from more than a dozen governmental agencies in the Hurricane Sandy disaster area, many of whom lost everything themselves. Kevin Stout, deputy emergency management coordinator of the MCSO, worked closely with Elbeco representatives to coordinate this effort. Elbeco has been manufacturing uniforms for police, fire, EMS, postal, tactical, and transportation personnel for more than 100 years. >> INSURANCE INSTITUTE FOR BUSINESS & HOME SAFETY (IBHS) urges home and business owners to take action to effectively reduce their wildfire risk. According to “State of the Climate,” released by the U.S. National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration, 2012 was the warmest year on record in the contiguous United States, with an average temperature a full degree higher (55.3°F) than the previous record set in 1998. For 2013, 10 states are already experiencing “exceptional drought” conditions, while snow levels throughout the country are nearing record lows, according to the National Drought Mitigation Center. >> The NATIONAL FIRE PROTECTION ASSOCIATION’s (NFPA’s) Fire Safety Educational Memorial Fund Committee awarded the 2013 Warren E. Isman Educational Grant to the Austin (TX) Fire Department (AFD) Hazardous Materials Response Team. Grant recipients select a conference where they can attend specialized hazardous materials training and education sessions. The Team is comprised of 92 technicians staffing three stations. Its jurisdiction consists of 820,000 residents and in 2011, it responded to more than 1,700 hazmat-related incidents. The award is available to any established incident response team from a fire department, police department, or other public-funded program.
