IAFC Volunteer Section urges participation in NFA`s VIP Week in February

Volunteer firefighters are urged to participate in the Volunteer Incentive Program (VIP) classes to be held in February on the National Fire Academy (NFA) campus in Emmitsburg, Maryland. John M. Buckman, International Association of Fire Chiefs Volunteer Section chairman, points out that the NFA had to cancel three VIP on-campus classes scheduled for the last week of October 1995 due to lack of student interest.

Volunteer firefighters, volunteer officers, paid officers with volunteers in the department, paid firefighters who also are volunteer firefighters in other departments, and paid firefighters in a department with volunteers are eligible to attend the classes. The only cost attendees would incur is for food (approximately $80), Buckman notes. The federal government pays attendees` travel expenses, lodging while on campus, and educational materials. The volunteer firefighters who attend would receive information that is “enlightening, real-world, and written for volunteers,” Buckman stresses.

For more information or to register for the classes, contact Doug Williams at the NFA at (800) 238-3358.
