Firefighters responded Wednesday afternoon to a multi-alarm house fire in Northeast Washington D.C. that injured one member and a civilian, according to reports.
Crews found fire on on all floors, the basement, and the attic of the two-story detached frame house in the 3400 block S. Dakota Ave NE. D.C. Fire & EMS reported 20 units and 100 firefighters responded to the scene.
According to WTOP, crews received word of the possibility of occupants inside the building and performed an interior attack and search operations. One resident was found inside the home suffering from nonlife-threatening injuries and was transported, and a firefighter was also transported with a nonlife-threatening injury. All of the residents were ultimately accounted for.
The fire reportedly spread rapidly through the home’s knee walls. D.C. Fire spokesman Vito Maggiolo told reporters that the fire is thought to have begun in the basement.
Crews also contended with a live power line that fell on one of the apparatus on scene.
