FDNY Units Respond to Four-Alarm Queens Fire with Collapse

Photos and info from FirstOnScenePhotos

Fire Department of New York (FDNY) companies from throughout the city battled a wind-blown, four-alarm fire in a one-story commercial building on Metropolitan Avenue in Glendale, Queens on Wednesday, March 8, 2023.

Heavy smoke and fire were visible on arrival at the auto parts store and units quickly set up for an interior attack.

Wind conditions and a heavy fire load caused the fire to rapidly advance to two alarms.

Exteriors operations were put into place with tower ladders, and multiversals were set up to douse the flames.

During the incident, there was a partial collapse of a brick veneer wall on the exposure four side. FDNY firefighters and apparatus had been positioned outside the collapse zone and there were no reported injuries.

It took units most of the day to bring the fire under control.
