The Orange County Fire Authority in Irvine, California, protects a 20-percent rural, 50-percent suburban, and 30-percent urban area. Engineer Joe LaRocca says that the 16 E-ONE pumpers ordered were designed with a short wheelbase for better maneuverability and with a ladder rack for increased compartment storage. Four AMERICAN LaFRANCE tractor-drawn quints replaced several 90-foot aerial platform quints because they are considered more maneuverable. Primarily used as truck companies, the quints can respond as engines and to EMS calls when needed.
