SCOTT TECHNOLOGIES, INC. appointed Robert A. Lodi vice president and general manager of Scott/Bacharach Instruments, LLC, the company’s joint venture with Bacharach Holdings, Inc. He will oversee all management and operational functions of Scott’s Instrument business.

TEMPEST TECHNOLOGY and CONTROLLED AIRSTREAMS, in cooperation with BADER INTERNATIONAL VENTILATION COMPANY of Geigen, Germany, have formed MOBILE VENTILATION TECHNOLOGY, LLC to market mobile ventilation units worldwide. Tempest makes positive pressure ventilation (PPV) blowers and Controlled Airstreams makes large mobile ventilation units. Jurgen Bader will lead the new company’s international sales effort, primarily in Europe.

MINE SAFETY APPLIANCES(MSA) announced the signing of an agreement to acquire CAIRNS HELMETS from CAIRNS & BROTHER. CairnsHelmets will continue to operate from its New Jersey headquarters and be part of MSA’s Safety Products Division.

DETROIT DIESEL announced the signing of a definitive merger agreement with a subsidiary of DAIMLER CHRYSLER AG. The agreement provides for the merger of a subsidiary of DaimlerChrysler into DDC. The transaction is expected to be completed by fall, 2000.

SCOTT HEALTH & SAFETY announced the conversion of the Buffalo (NY) Fire Department to Scott Air-Paks. The wholesale changeout includes the replacement of all SCBAs and test equipment, and fit testing and training for all firefighters. The 18-month conversion and evaluation process included the purchase of 275 Scott Air-Paks with Quick Charge and Pak Alert SEs and 175 spare cylinders, personalized face pieces, and regulators.

The INTERNATIONAL ASSOCIATION OF ARSON INVESTIGATORS (IAAI) has named Gerald J. Naylis president for the coming year. Naylis is an account engineer with FM Global in Parsippany, New Jersey. IAAI provides training and education programs including the Expert Witness Courtroom Testimony course, and the Small Appliance Fire Investigation seminar. It is developing a partnership with the United States Fire Administration for distance learning of college-level courses.

BULLARD appointed John Hays thermal imaging product manager. He will manage the company’s line of thermal imaging products domestically and internationally.

VFIS announced the winners of its VFIS Junior Emergency Services Excellence Award Contest. First place: Pleasant Valley Volunteer Fire Department Explorer Post #14, Fort Mill, South Carolina; second place: Mercy Flights, Inc. Explorer Post #2131, Medford, Oregon; Elon College Junior Firefighters Explorer Post #4008, Elon College, North Carolina.
