THE UNITED STATES FIRE ADMINISTRATION named Wayne Powell chief of the Fire Management Programs Branch, which is responsible for a wide array of fire prevention advocacy services, including public education, interaction with other federal agencies on fire protection matters, and USFA coordination with national fire organizations. He has been affiliated with the Federal Emergency Management Agency’s Federal Fire Programs since 1977.

MOTOROLA announced it would contribute $25,000 toward the building fund for the new headquarters of the Association of Public Safety Communications Officials (APCO). The public safety communications organization includes fire, police, EMS, military, and government personnel worldwide who manage and operate public safety communications.

THE NATIONAL FIRE PROTECTION ASSOCIATION (NFPA) named Lt. Col. Sean A. Tracey, former Canadian Forces fire marshal, regional manager for Canada. He will be responsible for promoting the adoption and use of NFPA codes, standards, and education programs and will represent the NFPA at code hearings, fire safety meetings, and membership sectional activities.

VFIS named William J. Conn director of administration for the emergency services division. He will support regional vice presidents, allowing them more time to identify sales and relationship opportunities in the field.

SPARTAN MOTORS, INC. named Richard Schalter executive vice president. He will be chief financial officer and responsible for oversight of Carpenter Industries, Inc., the company’s school bus division.

CUMMINS, INC. is the new name for Cummins Engine Company, Inc. While engine manufacturing remains the company’s core business, the company also has power generation, filtration, and other business units.

NAMES IN THE NEWS

STEVE MAGLIOCCO, chief of the Fullerton (CA) Fire Department, passed away. He joined the Anaheim Fire Department in 1974, rising to the rank of division chief in 1992. Magliocco became chief of the Vallejo Fire Department in 1994 and in 1995 became chief of the Fullerton Fire Department. As chief, he implemented the Paramedic Assessment Unit, reorganized the Fire Prevention Bureau as the Community Safety and Services Bureau, implemented stronger safety procedures and standards, and completed a master plan that assessed future community fire service needs.
