The contest, in conjunction with NFPA’s first national Wildfire Community Preparedness Day event on May 3, 2014, was created to help raise wildfire awareness, promote collaboration, and bring neighbors together to work on projects that can help protect homes, neighborhoods, and entire communities from future wildfire risk or current postfire impacts. >> GLOBE MANUFACTURING COMPANY began a partnership with the Terry Farrell Firefighter Fund at FDIC 2014. With its supplier partner, 3M, Globe invited attendees to try its latest turnout gear on the Globe Firefighter Athletic Circuit and committed to make a $10 donation to the Terry Farrell Firefighter Fund in each firefighter’s name. 3M generously matched each donation. In total, Globe and 3M donated $20,000 to the Fund from the Globe Firefighter Athletic Circuit at FDIC. >> The NATIONAL FIRE PROTECTION ASSOCIATION (NFPA) named Samantha Hoffmann, a public fire and life safety officer and public information officer for the Barrie (Ontario, Canada) Fire & Emergency Service, as its 2014 Fire and Life Safety Educator of the Year. The award recognizes a fire and life safety educator who works for a local fire department, uses NFPA materials in consistent and creative ways, demonstrates excellence and innovation in reaching out to the community, and views the NFPA as the source for safety information. >> SPARTAN ERV named Van Johnson as the first winner of its “Forged by Fire” marketing campaign. As a result, Johnson will receive a $5,000 cash prize. >> The INSURANCE INSTITUTE FOR BUSINESS & HOME SAFETY (IBHS) and THE INTERNATIONAL ASSOCIATION OF FIRE CHIEFS (IAFC) announced that IBHS will provide additional funding for a grant program that provides small and rural volunteer fire departments with resources to implement the Ready, Set, Go! wildland fire preparedness program. Ready, Set, Go! is designed by the IAFC to teach individuals who live in high-risk wildland fire areas how to best prepare themselves and their properties.
