He may just be a puppet on a string, but Fireman Bill is performing a valuable fire prevention job for elementary children in San Lorenzo, Calif.
Fireman Bill pantomines to a 7 l/2 minute cassette, teaching pre-schoolers through fourth-graders fire safety. Accompanying engine companies reinforce stop, drop and roll, home inspection and exit plans, according to the age group.
Fireman Bill was created by Ireta Wheeler, whose son David, along with co-workers of Station 2, made up a stage, a script, visual aids and the tape. They perform throughout Eden Consolidated Fire Protection District, San Lorenzo, Calif.
