NFPA fire service committees are soliciting comments

The National Fire Protection Association (NFPA) released its Report on Proposals (ROP) for its 1996 annual meeting (May 19-23) on August 1. Comments on the proposals will be accepted through October 13, 1995.

The following reports are included in the ROP:

Technical Committee on Fire Reporting: Proposing revisions of NFPA 903, Fire Reporting Property Survey Guide, and NFPA 904, Incident Follow-up Report Guide.

Technical Committee on Fire Service Instructor Professional Qualifications: Proposing a complete revision of NFPA 1041, Standard for Fire Service Instructor Professional Qualifications.

Technical Committee on Public Safety Telecommunicator Professional Qualifications: Proposing adoption of a new document, NFPA 1061, Standard for Professional Qualifications for Public Safety Telecommunicator.

Technical Committee on Forest and Rural Fire Protection: Completely revised NFPA 1141, Standard for Fire Protection in Planned Building Groups.

Fire Department Apparatus Committee: Proposing to combine the following documents into a single document: NFPA 1901, Standard for Pumper Fire Apparatus; NFPA 1902, Standard for Initial Attack Fire Apparatus; NFPA 1903, Standard for Mobile Water Supply Fire Apparatus; and NFPA 1904, Standard for Aerial Ladder and Elevating Platform Fire Apparatus. The new document will be designated as NFPA 1901, Standard for Automotive Fire Apparatus, and will contain expanded and new chapters to cover special service vehicles as well as the vehicles covered by the superseded documents.

Technical Committee on Structural Firefighting Protective Clothing and Equipment: Proposing to combine the following four documents into a single document: NFPA 1971, Standard on Protective Clothing for Structural Fire Fighting; NFPA 1972, Standard on Helmets for Structural Fire Fighting; NFPA 1973, Standard on Gloves for Structural Fire Fighting; and NFPA 1974, Standard on Protective Footwear for Structural Fire Fighting. The new document, designated as NFPA 1971, Standard on Protective Ensemble for Structural Fire Fighting, will update the requirements for the components previously covered in the four separate standards.
