Firefighters with the Orlando (FL) Fire Department, one of several partners with the Children’s Safety Village of Central Florida and the UCF Honor Congress, were out at the Safety Village on Saturday, February 4, 2023, giving back to the community. Fire Chief Salazar and his senior staff, fire explorers, fire personnel, and other volunteers put their painting and landscaping skills to work at various projects in the village, which is located at 910 Fairvilla Road in Orlando just east of the Central Florida Fairgrounds.
As the leading authority on child safety education and injury protection in Central Florida, the Children’s Safety Village is operational year-round and its miniature “city” includes child-sized buildings, paved streets, sidewalks, crosswalks, a functioning traffic light, a railroad crossing, Fire Safety House and an indoor Water Safety Complex.
“Having our partners and volunteer organizations from the Orlando Fire Department and UCF Honors Congress come out to assist us solidifies the support these agencies have to help us fulfill our mission, because it takes a Village,” said Brent E. Moore, executive director.
The Children’s Safety Village hosts schools, camps, scouts, home schools and others from throughout Central Florida as part of field trips to learn about child safety. Agencies and other sponsors have their mini building designed in support of the Safety Village and the programs and events hosted at the site
