FIREFIGHTING OPERATIONS IN GARDEN APARTMENTS AND TOWNHOUSES, Glenn A. Gaines; Robert J. Brady Co., Bowie, Md. 20715; 130 pages, $10.95.

A parallel approach is used in discussing fire operations in garden apartments and townhouses. Each type of residential building is discussed in terms of construction characteristics, particularly those that contribute to fire spread, pre-fire planning and fire fighting tactics. Separate chapters also describe typical fire situations that are encountered in each type of residence and the fire fighting operations that should be used to resolve the situations.

In writing about tactics, the author suggests ways to position apparatus, use first-alarm manpower, do search and rescue, protect exposures and take other actions necessary to extinguishment and overhaul. The author points out the value of pre-fire planning for not only reaching the seat of the fire in the building, but also for reaching the building, whose location may not be readily apparent in garden apartment and townhouse complexes.
