House Subcommittee approves bill to allow surplus property transfers

The House of Representatives Subcommittee on Government Management, Information and Technology approved by voice vote H.R. 1442. The measure would allow the federal government to transfer surplus federal property to local law enforcement and fire and rescue authorities for use as training facilities. The Justice Department has the authority to make such transfers until the end of this year. The proposed bill would extend that authority indefinitely.
