A Firemans Wish

A Fireman`s Wish

Gregg K. Hoagland

Firefighter

Montgomery (TX) Fire Department

I have enjoyed reading your magazine for many years. I am going on 17 years in the fire service and have always been most proud of the camaraderie in heart and thought of our nation`s firefighters expressed in part through the magazine. I wrote the attached poem after the sudden and tragic death of a Houston firefighter recently while in the line of duty. I felt the thoughts of this poem needed to go out to our fellow firefighters to show we have them in our thoughts always.

I would appreciate your sharing this with your valued readers. Thank you for the appreciation, respect, and continued support shown our firefighters over the years.

A Fireman`s Wish

God grant me the power to defeat the fire.

God grant me the knowledge and ability to defend myself and fellow firefighters from the fire.

God grant me the patience to search and seek those trapped by the fire.

God grant me the wisdom to understand the loss by the fire.

God grant me the character to mourn and help others through their loss.

God grant me the sincerity and pride to give my all in what may be my only task to save another.

And God, if you choose me to seek your company, grant my family and friends the power of healing.
