CFSI Fire and EMS Day April 21

The Congressional Fire Services Institute (CFSI) has released a preliminary schedule for its Fire and EMS Day to be held on April 21, 1999, in Washington, D.C.

A legislative workshop [9:30 a.m.-11 a.m. Capitol Hill, room to be announced (TBA)] for members of Congress, Congressional staff, and national fire service leaders will kick off the day`s events.

A briefing on federal initiatives to combat domestic terrorism (11 a.m.-12:30 p.m., Capitol Hill, room TBA) by members of Congress, federal agency officials, and fire service leaders will be held exclusively for dinner participants. Attendees must preregister with the CFSI at (202) 371-1277 before April 19.

At a time to be announced, on Capitol Hill, leaders representing a public and private organization partnership will present the Interfire Virtual Reality fire investigation training program, which will be available to the firefighting and law enforcement communities and the insurance industry. A live burn will be part of this program.

An Open House (1 p.m. – 3 p.m., Lincoln Room, Washington Hilton and Towers) sponsored by the Federal Emergency Management Agency, the U.S. Fire Administration, the National Fire Academy, and the National Institute of Standards and Technology will feature displays on programs and projects affecting the health, safety, and readiness of fire departments. In the Georgetown Room at the Hilton during the same time period will be a fire prevention display focusing on the CFSI Dinner theme “Saving Lives Starts with Prevention.” A number of national fire prevention and safety initiatives and campaigns for fire departments and the public will be showcased.

The “Emergency Apparatus Innovations for the Future” seminar (2 p.m.-4 p.m., Thoroughbred Room, Hilton), sponsored by the Fire Apparatus Manufacturers` Association and the International Association of Fire Chiefs, will focus on the future of fire and emergency apparatus.

The 11th Annual National Fire and Emergency Services Dinner will commence with a general reception on the Terrace level at 5:30 p.m. Dinner will follow in the Main Ballroom at 7 p.m.
