>> E2S WARNING SIGNALS published “Guide for Hazardous Areas” which is available as a free download on its Web site. The guide has been put together with specifiers and hazardous area engineers in mind with matrix tables that enable fast cross-referencing of information between the main certification systems-ATEX, IECEx, North American, and Canadian standards. The guide contains ample reference information related to gas and dust atmospheres and potentially explosive environments such as gas and dust groups as well as typical substances according to the main certification systems, maximum surface temperature of equipment, temperature classifications, and ignition temperature limits of gas/dust. Download the guide at www.e2s.com.

>> EXCELLANCE, INC. has completed the development, design, and construction of the world’s first Ford QVM-approved, CNG-powered ambulance. The ambulance, custom-built for the Bossier City (LA) Fire Department, features a medium-duty Ford F-650 chassis with lower fueling costs, saving a minimum of 50 percent over gas and diesel powered engines. Tests show an average of seven miles per gallon, with the 58 gas-gallon equivalent fuel capacity providing a conservative range of 315 miles to the tank. The ambulance body and CNG fueling system can also be remounted onto a new chassis when the original chassis wears out, providing significant savings over the life of the ambulance.

>> The RENEWABLE FUELS ASSOCIATION (RFA) was presented the TRANSCAER® National Achievement Award for the third consecutive year for its dedication to TRANSCAER®’s safety goals and its continuing education of first responders across the country. TRANSCAER® is a national outreach effort focused on community preparation for possible hazardous materials accidents. The RFA recently released an updated version of “The Training Guide to Ethanol Emergency Response.” The training guide was first developed in 2006 to give first responders, safety personnel, and hazmat teams information on how to properly respond to an ethanol-related emergency. It has been distributed to more than 10,000 first responders and was converted into an Ethanol Safety Seminar. www.ethanolresponse.com.
