In the past two years, GEORGIA-PACIFIC, through the Georgia-Pacific Bucket Brigade™ program, has provided more than $200,000 in grants to fire departments across the country to help them meet their communities’ pressing needs for trained and equipped personnel and has donated hundreds of cases of paper products for department use. This national program recognizes and supports fire departments in communities with Georgia-Pacific facilities. The program provides product and cash donations for programming, equipment, and safety education materials for presentations in local schools. The INTERNATIONAL ASSOCIATION OF FIRE FIGHTERS and THE NATIONAL PARAMEDIC INSTITUTE offers all firefighters, paramedics, and EMTs fire-based continuing education programs. Participants can receive CECBEMS-approved continuing education credit using the National Paramedic Institute’s online training for first responders, paramedics, and EMTs. This online resource also allows users to track individual training records and print completion certificates. AMERICAN LaFRANCE, LLC received an order for 10 Liberty rescue pumpers from Lamar County, Mississippi. Located in the pine woods section of southeast Mississippi, the county has a total area of slightly less than 500 square miles and is one of the state’s fastest-growing counties. The 2000 projected census figures recorded a county population up nearly 30 percent from just 10 years earlier. A grant from United States Department of Agriculture Rural Development provided $500,000 toward this purchase.

American LaFrance received an order for four 100-foot tractor-drawn aerials from the Los Angeles City (CA) Fire Department, which has more than 50 American LaFrance fire apparatus in its fleet. The company recently delivered 14 100-foot tractor-drawn aerials to the city.

The National Truck Equipment Association (NTEA) has inducted ROSENBAUER CENTRAL STATES, an NTEA member since 1986, into its Member Verification Program (MVP).The NTEA MVP recognizes members that have implemented minimum business processes and have taken steps to comply with certain government regulations. Rosenbauer America is expanding its Central Division fire apparatus manufacturing facility by 24,000 square feet. New production and fabrication areas will cover nearly 12,000 square feet, and more than 11,000 square feet will be dedicated to offices and a showroom facility that will house six completed fire apparatus. The project is expected to be completed by March 2008.

Rosenbauer has added Empire Emergency Apparatus Inc. in North Tonawanda, New York, and Frontier Emergency Products in Phoenix, Arizona, to its dealer network. Frontier serves Arizona and southern Nevada, and recently moved into a new 15,000-square-foot facility to better serve its customers.

W.S. DARLEY & CO. has received five major defense contracts from the Defense Supply Center Philadelphia (DSCP) in Pennsylvania. Under these prime vendor contracts, Darley will provide tailored logistics support for fire and emergency services to the United States Army, Navy, Air Force, Marine Corps, federal civilian agencies, and state and local governments. Darley received indefinite-quantity, indefinite-delivery, multiple-vendor contracts covering all five regions. Each contract has a maximum value of $800 million.

E-ONE received an order for 10 Typhoon Custom Pumpers with custom winterization packages from the city of Winnipeg, Manitoba, Canada. The custom pumpers will be modified with a winterization package that includes extra insulation and heaters in the cab, an enclosed pump panel with a roll-up door, an additional pump panel pan, pump module heaters, a Trident air vacuum pump primer, FRC discharge gauges, Federal Signal lighting, an eight-kw generator, and a telescopic light tower.

FERRARA FIRE APPARATUS, INC. named Paul Stephenson director of aerial sales. He has served as a firefighter in South Florida and has nearly 20 years experience in fire apparatus and custom chassis components product development. Stephenson has been involved in launching several new aerial products.

Ferrara delivered another group of custom pumpers to the Houston (TX) Fire Department. Houston’s fleet now operates 31 Ferrara trucks, including 20 custom pumpers, two high-pressure pumpers, nine rear-mount 107-foot aerial ladders, and one hazardous materials unit. All of its Ferrara emergency vehicles are built on the rugged Igniter custom chassis.

The company also completed a 12-truck order for Dorchester County, South Carolina. The trucks were sold by Fire Equipment Services in Sumter, South Carolina, and were placed in service in the 12 fire departments in the county. The order consisted of two custom pumpers, three commercial pumpers, six tankers, and one rescue vehicle. All 12 trucks feature Ferrara’s custom-built heavy-duty extruded aluminum fire bodies.

STREAMLIGHT®, manufacturer of flashlights for the fire market, is adding 75,000 square feet in space to its Eagleville, Pennsylvania, headquarters facility. The building addition project began in October 2007 and is expected to be completed in May 2008, bringing the company’s total plant size to 165,000 square feet. The new addition will add 55,000 square feet to the existing 70,000 square-foot manufacturing space, a 75 percent increase. This addition will also double the size of its headquarters office and engineering facility with an additional 20,000 square feet of office space.

The NATIONAL SEARCH DOG ALLIANCE is seeking new members. The organization is aimed at providing programs designed and developed for the search and rescue canine professional, as well as further training and certification standards. Visit www.n-sda.org.

The MOTOROLA FOUNDATION provided a $50,000 Innovation Generation Grant to JETS to support a girl-focused initiative through a collaborative effort with the National Coalition of Girls’ Schools. JETS is a national nonprofit organization dedicated to educating and preparing young people for engineering and technology careers. The Innovation Generation Grants fund education programs that spark an interest for science, technology, engineering, and math in today’s youth. The JETS initiative will provide quality materials and resources to coalition school members to inform teachers and students about the various careers in engineering while helping them explore, assess, and experience the profession.
