ROBERT BARRACLOUGH. vice president of emergency products for SPAN INSTRUMENTS in Plano, Texas, has been elected president of the Fire Apparatus Manufacturers’ Association (FAMA), in Potomac, Maryland. A volunteer firefighter for 25 years, Barraclough had served as a fire marshal on the USS Enterprise and taught firefighting at the Naval Damage Control Training Center in Philadelphia. An instructor/guest lecturer on foam, pumps, apparatus, maintenance, and safety, Barraclough has had numerous technical articles published in various magazines serving the fire service. He is on the Congressional Fire Service Institute board of directors and is vice chairman of the National Fire Protection Association Fire Department Equipment Committee. Previous business affiliations include National Foam, Hale Pumps, and Emergency One.

EMERGENCY ONE (E-One), INC., of Ocala, Florida, a wholly owned subsidiary of Federal Signal Corporation of Oak Brook, Illinois, recently has acquired Superior Emergency Equipment, Ltd., of Red Deer, Alberta, Canada, and Frontline Emergency Vehicles of Pinellas Park, Florida. Superior, which will continue to operate under present management, markets a complete line of fire apparatus bodies, including pumpers, tankers, rescues, aerials, and brush trucks.

Frontline will become a subsidiary of Emergency One and will bring to its product line an extensive variety of emergency vehicles, including ambulances, and mobile communication vehicles.

The Blazeguard non-impregnated fire-rated roof sheathing, manufactured by WEYERHAEUSER ARCHITECTURAL PRODUCTS GROUP. Tacoma, Washington, was awarded a “Best of What’s New” award by Popular Science Magazine. Among the product’s features are compliance with all major building codes and an inorganic fire shield laminate, which can be provided on two sides, bonded to structural wood panels. In addition, the sheathing contains crystals of molecularly bound water that are released at 425°F to create a barrier between the fire and the wood—acting like a “built-in sprinkler system”—to slow the spread of fire, explains Manufacturer Reserve Supply, Inc., of Irvington, New Jersey, exclusive regional distributors of the product. T he panels also are said to be environmentally safe; to emit minimal smoke; and to be capable of being cut, drilled, nailed, or stapled with normal carpentry tools.

SIMON ACCESS-NORTH AMERICA Mil waukee, Wisconsin, and TOMEN CORPORATION, of Japan, recently signed distribution and joint venture agreements under which access equipment manufactured in the United States and Europe by Simon will be imported, distributed, and serviced in Japan by Tomen. The new company, Simon-Tomen Engineering Company, will work with Tomen’s Construction Machinery Department, which has branch offices in all major cities in Japan. Milwaukee-based Simon Aerials Inc., manufacturer of self-propelled booms and scissorlifts, was the company’s first ties with Tomen.
