Firefighter Training Drill: Ground Ladder Carry & Raise

By Forest Reeder

When time is of the essence, the ability of a single firefighter or company of firefighters to place a ground ladder into operation must be a smooth and efficient operation. Using the ground ladders (straight and extension) on your assigned apparatus, review the proper steps for completing a simulated ground ladder operation. This evolution should be performed in the same PPE that would be used in a real emergency situation. Consider completing these evolutions with one, two, or three firefighters according to your daily manpower staffing.
