Engine manufacturer CUMMINS ENGINE CO., INC. and software provider SUN MICROSYSTEMS have formed an industry committee to develop an open, nonproprietary specification of the “Machine Information eXchange-MIX” application program interface (API) at the Java Developers Conference, JavaOnesm. The MIX API effort will create an industry standard communication protocol to be used by all software developers in an open architecture environment.
