FEMA`s CATF3 and SEAONC members review Taiwan earthquake damage

Members of the Federal Emergency Management Agency`s California Task Force 3 (CATF3) and the Structural Engineers Association of Northern California (SEAONC) visited Taiwan in October to assess the damage caused by the earthquake it recently experienced and to review rescue efforts.

The delegation was led by CATF3 Captain Harold Shappelhouman. According to Joe Zsutty, a SEAONC engineer and CATF3 structural specialist, the group went to “engage in structural reconnaissance with local officials.” He added: “Ultimately, we hope to establish an ongoing exchange of information with our Taiwanese counterparts and bring back valuable lessons that can be applied to seismic events in the San Francisco Bay and Silicon Valley areas.”
