>> MICHAEL MORSE was one of three Rhode Island writers to receive the MacColl Johnson Fellowship from The Rhode Island Foundation. He will also receive $25,000. Morse has served as an emergency medical technician and firefighter with the Providence (RI) Fire Department for more than 20 years; he will retire from the service this year. Morse has published two narrative nonfiction books-Rescuing Providence and Responding EMS: It Happens Now-and is a columnist for www.FireLife.com. The Robert and Margaret MacColl Johnson Fellowship Fund provides up to three artist fellowships each year, rotating among composers, writers, and visual artists on a three-year cycle. www.rifoundation.org.
