Kerosine Heater Ban

Kerosine Heater Ban

State Fire Marshal Philip C. Favro of California recently issued a warning against the use of unvented kerosine heaters, making them illegal for sale in that state.

These heaters generate high surface temperatures which can ignite combustible materials or cause serious burns when touched. Another possible hazard is oxygen depletion, which occurs in a room with weather stripping and other energy conserving features. Unvented kerosine heaters can use up the available oxygen and produce carbon dioxide gas, causing asphyxiation.
