NAFTD adopts resolutions at annual conference

The North American Fire Training Directors has taken the following positions, by resolution, on fire service education and training issues at its annual conference in October:

It agrees with the recommendations of the Blue Ribbon Panel to the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) and would like to see FEMA implement them “as rapidly as possible.”

It believes merger of the National Professional Qualifications Board and the International Fire Service Accreditation Congress will be in the best interest of the fire and rescue services and urges that “the best of each system be preserved in the merger process.”

It supports an increase in federal funds for state and local jurisdiction grants to protect the public against fire and related hazards, including natural and man-made disasters. The size and the scope of the grant programs should be adequate to “dramatically improve the staffing and equipment available to first responders.” n
