Firefighter/Paramedic JEFF REINIG of the Orange County (CA) Fire Department was awarded the Medal of Valor late last year by the Orange County Board of Supervisors. The award was bestowed for the rescue of a ninemonth-old baby during a response to a Cypress, California, structure fire in January 1993.

GARY O. TOKLE has been promoted from the position of fire service training and education specialist to director of the public fire protection division of the National Fite Protection Association. In his new position, Tokle will be responsible for the division’s staff and will oversee the administration of the Urban Fire Forum. Tokle has 20 years of fire protection experience.

The American Fire Sprinkler Association awarded last year’s Henry S. Parmelee Award to FRANK RISEDEN, for promoting the goals of the fire sprinkler industry. Riseden was instrumental in getting the state of Louisiana to retain the high-rise sprinkler provision of the Standard Building Code adopted in 1974, paving the way for 17 other states to include similar provisions. In addition, he testified before Congress for the passage of the Hocel and Motel Fire Saftey Act of 1990.

The National Volunteer Fire Council’s 1993 Marc Mueller Fire Prevention Award went to Firefighter CINDY TARQUINI of the Level (MD) Volunteer Fire Company. Tarquini was honored for activities that included starting a community smoke detector awareness prqgram.
