On December 2, 2017, Rocky Mount (NC) firefighters from fire stations 1, 4,5 , and 6 joined Nash County EMS units in being dispatched to a working fire at a local motel on 2420 N. Wesleyan Blvd.

Engine 4 was first in and dropped a five-inch water supply line in from the nearby hydrant and went in service with a 2 1/2-inch water line. One hotel unit was fully involved and fire was spreading down the outside covered walkway roof. Using a 2 1/2 water line, Engine 4 firefighters were able to make a quick knockdown on the fast-moving fire along the walkway and hit the now fully involved motel room. The fire had made its way into the attic space but other firefighters used four 1 3/4-inch water lines to cut the fire off before it got into the other exposures

The motel had 16 guest rooms  One unit was a total loss and units on both sides suffered smoke and water damages. The outside walkway roof received heavy fire and heat damage, but no other rooms received  any fire damage, just smoke and water damage. Working smoke alarms were all working to alert any occupants. It was determined that no occupants were inside any of the rooms upon the arrival of fire units, but a search of all rooms was completed with all rooms clear. Twenty-two Rocky Mount firefighters along with EMS units responded. There were no reported injuries. The fire is under investigation by the fire marshal’s office.
