One Dead, One Still Missing After NV Apartment Building Fire

According to a report from 8NewsNow, one person has died and another is still unaccounted for after a fire erupted in a Las Vegas, Nevada, apartment complex early Tuesday morning.

Seven others, including one Las Vegas (NV) Fire & Rescue (LVFR) firefighter, were hospitalized, and 14 others have been displaced. The building is deemed a total loss.

LVFR received the call at 5:04 a.m. Tuesday for a report of fire at The Tides on Charleston, east of Rainbow Boulevard.

Fire crews contained the flames to one building in the complex. Some residents were forced to jump from balconies to escape the fire.

After LVFR confirmed that one person was dead and another was missing, crews were continuing their search efforts.

LVFR, who also received mutual aid from the Clark County Fire Department, arrived on scene within five minutes of the call, and the fire was extinguished by 6:42 a.m. Crews remain on the scene cleaning up.

One firefighter suffered minor injuries and was transported to University Medical Center. Two of the seven people also hospitalized are reported as being in more serious condition.

The number of displaced could increase to 23. They will be placed in semi-permanent housing through a partnership between the city and American Red Cross.
