One Dead, Three Firefighters Among Seven Injured in IL Apartment Fire

According to a report from CBS2, one woman was killed and seven others, including three firefighters, were injured after a fire erupted in a Calumet City, Illinois, apartment building Monday night in the 200-block of Park Avenue.

Companies from at least six fire departments responded to the Park of River Oaks condos. On arrival, firefighters discovered heavy fire on the second floor in a unit in the rear of the building, with flames extending to the seventh floor as well as the roof.

Four building residents and three firefighters were transported to area hospitals with nonlife-threatening injuries.

Fire officials said the building suffered heavy fire and smoke damage.

It is unknown how many residents have been displaced, and the cause of the fire remains under investigation.

The identity of the woman who was killed has not yet been released.

A fire at a BioLabs facility in Conyers, Georgia, has sent a toxic cloud over Rockdale County and disrupted large swaths of metro Atlanta.
