PRIORITY EMERGENCY VEHICLE TRAFFIC SYSTEM

The recently improved Opticom priority control system from iM’s Safety and Security System Division enables a vehicle carrying an Opticom emitter to send a coded infrared message to intersection-installed detectors, enabling the system’s phase selector to either preempt a red light or hold a green light until the emergency vehicle passes through the intersection. Operation on two frequencies allows municipalities to choose command priority for emergency vehicles and advantage priority for other authorized vehicles. HARD-SUCTION DRAFTING HOSE

Jaffrey Fire Protection Co. has intrixluced the “Mudsucker” “ a PVC-constructed suction hose designed to make drafting operations more efficient. It features a larger bend radius than previous designs, for added flex from -40°F to 150“F, increased portability, and maneuverability. AIRWAY ADJUNCT

Laerdal has enhanced its airway adjunct, the Laerdal Pocket Mask ”, to offer double barrier protection by way of a disposable filter and an improved one-way valve with lower inspiratory and expiratory resistance. The filter, which fits on the underside of the mask, is positioned to protect the valve from blockage by vomit while allowing free passage of expiratory gas away from both the rescuer and victim. The one-way valve also is easier to attach and has a larger mouthpiece than the original pocket mask, and it can be cleaned for reuse during training. The company offers an update pack for owners of the original units.

Blauer Manufacturing has introduced the ClassAct “ line of uniform shirts and trousers, made from a machine-washable 55/45 woolblend worsted fabric specially treated to reduce ‘frosting” after extended wear. Three weights are available—8.5-ounce plain weave stretch for shirts, 11.5-ounce plain weave stretch for trousers, and 14.5-ounce serge for trousers.

PORTABLE PUMP LINE

Hale Products Inc. has launched a line of portable pumps for the firefighting service. The HP series consists of four models, the NFPA-compliant HP100, HP200, HP300, and HP400, which feature the new Vanguard engine from Briggs and Stratton. New features include a built-in fuel tank and a mechanism allowing the user to prime from the instrument panel. The HP400 transfer pump represents a new performance range for Hale, with low-pressure flows in excess of 500 gpm.
