Woman Pulled from IL Apartment Fire with Gunshot Wound Dies

According to a report from ABC7, a woman who was pulled from an apartment fire in the Chicago, Illinois, neighborhood of Austin suffering from a gunshot wound has died.

Authorities responded to the apartment building in the 200-block of South Lavergne Avenue at 2:16 a.m. Friday morning for reports of fire. On entering the unit, crews discovered the 57-year-old woman with a gunshot wound. She was transported to Stroger Hospital, where she was pronounced dead.

A neighbor who lived below her said he heard some noise and I knocked on the ceiling to let me know if she was OK because it was their signal to each other. When he called and then texted her, she didn’t respond.

The victim’s next-door neighbor, Stacy Adams, rushed out of her building after smelling the smoke, saying she woke up to smoke coming from under the floor and under the radiator board. Outside, she said she could see flames coming from the next door on the third floor.

Police are now conducting a death investigation. There were no other injuries reported in the fire.
