NC Crews Rescue Three at Gas Station Fire, Partial Roof Collapse

According to a report from FOX8, the Winston Salem (NC) Fire Department (WSFD) and rescue teams rescued three people who became trapped inside a gas station after part of the structure collapsed Wednesday morning.

WSFD crews responded to a Valero gas station along the 6000 block of University Parkway after the awning on the roof caved in.

Eyewitnesses said that, moments before sections of the roof collapsed, the awning was leaning before it capsized over the front of the building, crashing to the ground.

WSFD Captain Desmond Teal said crews employed multiple tools to sweep through the debris of the toppled building. Teal also said rescue companies assisted with chain saws and removed the rubbish and debris.

City officials have yet to give a cause of the collapsed awning.
